David Bowen

David Bowen

Director of Equity Investments

As an experienced New York City real estate investor, Mr. Bowen has specialized in the acquisition and management of mixed-use and multi-family property investments with a particular focus on the Brooklyn neighborhood of Crown Heights, where he owns and directly manages interests in over 70 residential and commercial units across ten mixed-use buildings. Mr. Bowen’s portfolio includes over 30 of the merchants on Nostrand Avenue

Mr. Bowen was previously a founding partner of Ascend Venture Group LLC, a private equity firm that currently manages over $150 million of investor capital in investments across selected industries.

Before Ascend’s formation, Mr. Bowen spent 18 years as an investment banker with leading U.S. financial institutions, Salomon Smith Barney and Goldman Sachs. He was a Director at Salomon, where he was responsible for providing some of the firm’s most prominent industrial clients with a broad range of financial advice, including mergers and acquisitions, equity and debt financing proposals, and strategic corporate finance. Before joining Salomon, Mr. Bowen worked for Goldman Sachs as a Vice President in its Global Finance and Asset Management Departments, in both the firm’s New York and London offices.

Mr. Bowen has been an active real estate investor in New York City since 1993, concurrent with his banking career, and he began acquiring multi-family properties in Park Slope and surrounding Brooklyn neighborhoods. These neighborhoods were identified by Mr. Bowen as having strong investment potential, given an attractive housing stock and extensive mass transit services to the Manhattan business district. Park Slope is now considered one of New York City’s most desirable residential neighborhoods, with property values and rentals approaching nearby Manhattan. Mr. Bowen’s current investment focus in Crown Heights is based on a belief that the neighborhood has similar medium to long-term investment potential to that which he identified in Park Slope in the early 1990s.

Mr. Bowen has served as Board Chairman of the Stanford University Graduate School of Business (GSB) Alumni Endowment Fund and recently completed five years of service as a Trustee of Williams College, Massachusetts. He has also served on the Board of Regis High School in New York, where he provided six years of board service and was the Chair of its Investment Committee.

Mr. Bowen received a Master of Business Administration degree from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business in 1988 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Williams College in 1983.
